Bourbon is one of the most popular spirits in the United States. It's a form of whiskey but has to be made with ar 51 percent corn to be considered bourbon and has to be aged for at least 2 years in charred oak barrels. Tennessee whiskey doesn't have to follow these guidelines but George Nickels and Jack Daniels do. After aging, only water can be added to reduce proof (strength of alcohol). If its 100 proof its 50% alcohol. Canadian and Irish whiskies can have added caramel color. Bourbon got the name from English settlers of the 1700's. The U.S. put a tax on distilled spirits and many rebelled causing war. Many settlers moved to Kentucky cause they were more relaxed. It was shipped out of Bourbon County, Kentucky hence the name bourbon eventually bourbon whiskey since its derived from whiskey.
