Chartreuse is a French liqueur that comes in green and yellow versions. The two colors have two distinct flavors with green being the most popular. It was made in 1737 by Carthusian monks. Green chartreuse is the only liqueur with a natural green color. Yellow chartreuse has a milder and smoother flavor. The green one has flavors of mint, sage, apple and vanilla. It has a sweet and spicy flavor with a nice herbal finish. Green chartreuse is the one usually in mixed drinks to give it a refreshing herbal flavor. Before heading to the store, chartreuse can be quite pricy, ranging between 55 and 60 dollars or more.
