Today July 19 is National Daiquiri Day
The reason why we celebrate this wonderful rum based drink on this date is unclear but one thing for certain, its one of the most popular drinks of all time. A daiquiri is made from rum, sugar and citrus. It can be made frozen or up (straight with no ice, chilled). The most exciting thing about this drink is the variety of flavors. If you ever go to New Orleans, you have to go to one of the drive-thru daiquiri shops and trust me, you will not be disappointed. There's many rumors about the origin of this drink, the main one is that it originated in Cuba around the 1900's. It was created in 1898 by American engineer Jennings Cox when, during the Spanish- American war, he worked in a village near Daiquiri, Cuba. The drink became popular, becoming one of the favorite drinks of writer Ernest Hemingway and President J. F. Kennedy. Eventually the drink became increasingly popular around Cuba, and now it is nationally known around the world. One of the most known and simple version of this drink is called the Hemingway Daiquiri, named after the writer. Below is the recipe
2 oz White Rum
3/4 oz Lime juice
1/2 oz Maraschino liqueur
1/2 oz Grapefruit juice
Garnish lime wedge
Usually in a coupe glass
But my question is, how do you like your Daiquiri?
