It is no debate that this cognac has been the African-Americans go to drink for a very long time now. It has been popularized in the urban community and talked about in many rap songs over the decades. My question is why? They have other cognacs out there, that are better but for some reason Hennessey stands out. Well, here's some back history behind the popularity of this alcohol brand. During the World War II, many of the black soldiers were stationed in France and took a liking to Hennessey. Once the French took noticed it, they started catering more to the African-American community. Hennessey was the first alcohol brand to feature ads in both Ebony and Jet (both African-American publications) magazine in the 1950's. Former Olympian bronze medalist,Herb Douglass, was the Vice President of Urban Development for Hennessey for a little over thee decades. Gearing this cognac to the urban community turned out quite pleasant in their favor as well. In 2020, the cognac brand profitability amongst African-Americans was estimated about 1.4 trillion dollars. Even with the popular brand D'usse, which Jay-Z is part owner of, Hennessey still not going anywhere. I personally like it with certain drinks but feel like it's overrated, what do you guys feel about Hennessey? Do you like it? Mixed or straight up?
One of the most popular Hennessey drinks of the 2000's was the Incredible Hulk. It's simply one part Hennessey one part Hyptoniq ( a French liqueur made from vodka, cognac and tropical fruit juices). It was invented by a bartender at Sean "Puffy" Combs restaurant when the bartender noticedd no men was drinking his investment, Hyptoniq.
