I made an alcoholic red soda drink to represent Juneteenth. However, I was so surprised at how many people haven't even heard of it. I am from Houston, TX so it is widely known here because Texas was the last state to become free of slavery. The slaves wasn't informed until two years later which is no surprise to me being from here. Texas is always last at everything. There are several events held here on this day and now it's a National Holiday. There's still more to overcome and sadly I might not see it in my lifetime but there's always hope. The red soda represents the blood, soil, and prosperity of Africa. After being free, they drank red soda and had traditional meals such as barbecue and mac n cheese.
I just adjusted my drink making it low calorie and spiked mine with alcohol.
2 to 3 cut strawberries muddled
2 oz club soda
1/2 oz lemon juice
1 oz Liquor of your choice ( try Black-owned like Uncle Nearest)
