National Tequila Day

As many of you all know, National Tequila Day was Saturday, June 24th. Yeah, I am a little late on my post but I still wanted to talk about it, well write about it. This is actually new, it was approved by the Senate last year to help this booming industry. What's your favorite tequila? The first tequila dates back to 1000 B.C. dating back to ancient Aztec before the arrival of the Spanish. The famous spirit is actually produced in a small town called Tequila (hence the name) outside of Mexico's Western state of Jalisico. Many celebrities have cultivated on this popular spirit by creating or part owners of their own brand like Kendall Jenner, Nick Jonas and Justin Timberlake. The most popular one nowadays is George Clooney's Casamigos, which is a multi-billion dollar brand now. For tequila to be tequila, it has to be grown in Mexico (about five regions) and made with the blue agave plant. Here's the different kind of tequila:

Blanco: (white or silver)

Can be bottled right after distillation or sometimes rested in stainless steel or oak barrels for up to 2 months. Great for cocktails

Joven:(young) or oro (gold)

Sometimes a blend between images and aged tequila. Most times similar process to Blanco tequila with the addition of coloring to give it a golden color and flavoring

Reposado:(rested)

Has to be aged in oak barrels for at least 2 months but not to exceed twelve months. Best for mixed drinks or by itself.

Anejo:

Must be aged for at least a year not to exceed three years with a capacity of 600 liters. Taste notes of vanilla, toast and citrus flavors.

Extra anejo:

Must be aged for at least three years
