Peju Merlot

I'm mostly a white wine drinker but I'm trying to get more into reds. Someone told me to start off with a Merlot or Argentina Malbec because its not as tannic as a Cabernet. I tried a Merlot from Napa Valley, Peju. It was smooth with notes of cherry, vanilla and even cola. I'll pair it with a lean piece of meat such as duck.
