A liqueur or cordial is an alcoholic drink with added flavorings, some include sugar, fruits or herbs. Usually served with or after dessert. It was originally used for herbal medicine and was often prepared by monks in 13th century Italy (Chartreuse for example). In modern times, it is produced all over the world and often used in drink recipes to enhance certain flavors. Liqueur and cordial have same meaning except in the U.K. where cordial cannot contain any alcohol. The prefix "cor" in French means heart seemingly it was first used for health benefits. Some popular liqueurs include Chambord which has a raspberry flavor produced in the Loire Valley in France.
